County Public Airport Authority Board Meeting, Dec. 14, 2000

JANUARY 2001
It's settled. Just Plane
Fun will be held on May 12. Just Plane Fun was started in 1995,
and was held consecutively each year, except in 2000. The community
event is a major attraction; the last event drew between 12,000
and 14,000 people.
This year, the attractions
will be military and civilian aircraft on static display, a
classic car show, up to 150 different commercial and non-profit
exhibitors, biplane, acrobatic and helicopter rides, introductory
flight training rides, live music, and lots of food.
This year's event will
feature over 130,000 square feet of (free) exhibitor space,
and will be held on the TAC Air ramp, and on the Denver jetCenter
front ramp.
The Peoria/Potomac extension,
a project jointly managed between Arapahoe County, Douglas County,
and Dove Valley, is a go for the first part of next year. Designs
are being finalized and Dove Valley is making final modifications.
The extension will be a four-lane roadway, two lanes each direction,
with left turn lanes, and without a raised median. The project
is scheduled for completion in June or July 2001. The extension,
which is an alternative access from E-470, will benefit the
airport and businesses in and outside of the airport, both in
Douglas County and Arapahoe County, and will relieve traffic
on Arapahoe Road.
William Payne, president
of the Centennial Airport Business Association, expressed his
concern over the deteriorating state of the crosswind runway,
and the fact that if it doesn't get repaired soon, it might
need to be shut down.
With FAA's continued withholding
of funds, it's becoming imperative for Centennial Airport to
find other means. Suggestions have been made to form a committee
regarding this issue. Payne expressed his concern that CABA
be included in this.
010 (degree) Flight tests
will soon begin. The tests will be conducted over a period of
60 to 90 days. The tests will be coordinated between the FAA,
airport users, Cherry Creek State Park, and the cities of Aurora
and Greenwood Village.
If you have any questions
regarding the test, please contact the Airport Authority at
[email protected]
or by calling 303-790-0598. For further information on the Arapahoe
