Hi From Di - "Twas the Season for Parties"

JANUARY 2001

The holidays are now past, but while they were here, Centennial Airport, the city of Centennial, and Arapahoe County in general, threw plenty of parties.

On the 19th of December, the Arapahoe County Republican Party gathered at the Denver Tech Center Broker for some good partisan fun.

At the gathering, Bo Cottrell, chairman of the Republican Party, announced that he will not be running for the office again, but will be running for vice-chairman of the state Republican Party.

Attending were Arapahoe County Commissioners Steve Ward and John Brackney; "big Mike Naughton is Ford"; Arapahoe County Sheriff Pat Sullivan and Undersheriff Grayson Robinson; Andi Allot, president of the Cherry Creek Republican Women and secretary of the Arapahoe County Republican party, and Natli VanDerWerken, a past president of the Cherry Creek Republican Women and a widely known Republican activist.

Also attending were Centennial city council hopefuls Betty Wotring and Alan Fletcher (with his wife Brenda); Representatives Nancy Spence, Joe Stengel and Debbie Stafford; Congressman Tom Tancredo; State Senators Jim Dyer and John Andrews; county Treasurer Bernie Ciazza; county District Attorney Jim Peters; Colorado Treasurer Mike Coffman; and Arapahoe County Vice-Chairman Marty Bolt.

I attended another party cross-town thrown by the South Metro Chamber of Commerce and hosted by the city of Littleton in their newly restored courthouse. I won't mention any names but a county commissioner (John Brackney) and the South Metro Chamber of Commerce president (Brian Vogt) gave me a tour of the building then lured me out on the ledge of the cupola, all for the sake of showing off Main Street at night. (Alas, the pictures didn't turn out.) But it was quite an experience. And I'm afraid of heights!
